Dad's Chocolate Pudding Cake

My Dad's Chocolate Pudding Cake is chocolate heaven! This dessert is part cake, part rich pudding. Served with ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, this recipe is a classic.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 6 Tbsp cocoa, divided
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 Tbsp melted shortening
  • 1 cup chopped nuts, such as walnuts
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups hot water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa.
  • Stir in milk and melted shortening. Add 1 cup of nuts, mixing lightly to combine.
  • Spread mixture in a 9 inch cake pan. Combine brown sugar and remaining 4 tablespoons of cocoa. Pour hot water (either warmed in the microwave or on the stovetop - it should be hot!) over the cake batter. Carefully transfer to oven and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Allow to slightly cool, serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
