Seen that hashtag lately? Yea, me too.

How about Tang. Seen that lately?

Yea, me neither. (What happened to that stuff?)

No, this recipe is not related in any way shape or form to TANG. The only similarity it has is its color, which, I mean, come on. Just LOOK AT HER.

Turmeric: It’s “It”

The bright colored hue does not come from some factory made mystery ingredient though. It’s all natural turmeric. Heard of it?

You probably have, perhaps in Indian or Thai cooking. And you probably bought it for that exotic sounding Coconut Chicken Curry you made 3 years ago that didn’t turn out. And the jar is still in your pantry.

First things first: throw that sh!$ out. While most spices have an average shelf life of 3 years, they can lose their flavor and potency over time. And given that turmeric is known for its antioxidative, antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties, you’re probs getting a whole lot of nothing out of that crusty jar. Toss it.

Second: buy a new jar! Sprinkle or add to everything. Roasted sweet potatoes, sautéed kale, in a rub for bone-in chicken breasts, in smoothies, or on salads. Look up an exciting new recipe (read: try the Vindaloo again!). Find your favorite way to enjoy it, and use it up!

Third: make this Turmeric Tonic, duh!

Energy In A Glass

This Turmeric Tonic is such an energizing drink. Just looking at it makes me happy! It’s a bright, lemony, lip-smacking concoction to be enjoyed morning, noon, or night.

Lemon and clementine juice give this elixir its bright flavor, and it gets a little hint of sweetness from honey. Add in the powerhouse, turmeric, along with ginger and a dash of cayenne (known to pump that metabolism), you you’ve got one spicy, sweet, and tart little beverage that you can feel great about.

Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 Serving

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon Juiced
  • 1 clementine, Juiced
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • Dash Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Tsp honey
  • 3 Cups water

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in shaker (a mason jar works well!). Shake well- you want the honey to disintegrate.
  • Pour over ice and enjoy!

Notes

  •  I used a Meyer lemon for this recipe, as they are traditionally sweeter.
  •  Adjust the ingredients to your liking. Add a little more cayenne pepper, slim down on the honey. Whatever you like!
