Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine all dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
In the bowl of a stand mixer (or bowl to use a hand mixer), combine pumpkin, sugar, maple syrup, eggs, oil, and vanilla until completely combined.
Add half the flour, mixing util combined. Then add milk, continuing to mix, ending with the remaining flour. Mix until flour is just incorporated.
Line a muffin pan with liners, and scoop batter about 1/2 way up. Add about 1/2 tsp of cream cheese to each muffin, and spoon extra batter over it to cover the cream cheese.
Bake for 20 minutes until baked through and a toothpick inserted comes out clean (avoid the center since you'll get cream cheese on the toothick!).
Allow to cool slightly before traversing to a cooling rack to cool completely.
