Your Favorite Bagel Sandwich, In Dip Form
If you’re anything like me, a lox bagel is the way to your heart. And preferably one that is heavy on the fixings, light on the bagel. Really, I just want the bagel to be a delivery method for all that deliciousness. This recipe takes that bagel sandwich and transforms it into a delicious dip that is sure to impress! Whether you serve it as an appetizer with some bagel chips, or as a part of a brunch spread with toasted bagels, you’re going to love it!
What is Lox?
Lox is salmon that has been brined and cured. The preparation and end result differ from smoked salmon, which tends to have a saltier and of course, smokier flavor profile. You could just as easily swap in smoked salmon in this recipe, and it will be just as good!
Lox is commonly served on a bagel with cream cheese, capers, and red onion. It’s a classic flavor combination! You can find lox in many grocery stores, but kosher delis are sure to have it. Check out my recipe for homemade lox to really make this dip special!
How To Make Lox Bagel Dip
You could easily combine all of the ingredients in one bowl and call it a day, but why not make it beautiful? Doing so couldn’t be easier:
- Spread cream cheese over a serving platter.
- With chopped lox, red onion, fresh dill, chopped capers, and lemon zest.
- Serve with bagel chips or toasted bagel halves and wait for the compliments to roll in!

Lox Bagel Dip
Ingredients
- 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 4 oz lox, chopped into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup red onion, minced
- 1/4 cup fresh dill, chopped
- 1-2 Tbsp capers, chopped
- 1 lemon, zested
- Bagel chips for serving
Instructions
- Spread cream cheese over a serving platter or plate. Use an offset spatula or the back of a spoon to make this easy!
- Spread the chopped lox, red onion, dill, and capers over the top of the cream cheese.
- Use a microplane or citrus peeler to zest or peel the lemon. Arrange lemon zest on top.
- Refrigerate one hour (if you can take it!) before serving. This helps firm up the ingredients. You can serve this as soon as you finish prepping it as well, the cream cheese will just be softer. Serve with bagel chips or toasted bagel halves and enjoy!
