This Smoked Caesar is a cousin of the Bloody Mary, and it’s a good one! This cocktail is light and refreshing, made with Clamato, tabasco, worcestshire, horseradish, and all the garnishes that make this brunch drink recipe a go-to.
Ever heard of a Bloody Mary?
Of course you have.
Ever heard of a Caesar?
No… I’m not talking about the famous Roman general.
I’m talking about V thirst quenching very drinkable Canadian cousin of a Bloody Mary.
The Canadian version of this cocktail was invented in Calgary, Alberta in 1969 by a restauranteur celebrating the opening of his new restaurant. The primary difference from a Bloody Mary is the use of tomato and clam juice – TRUST ME IT’S GREAT – as opposed to the thick tomato base that typically is used in a Bloody. I love how light and refreshing this version is, as opposed to thick and filling.
And this version gets a smoky treatment, resulting in one of the best damn Caesars I’ve ever had.
I first was inspired to create this recipe when I was in Glacier, Montana in June. You may remember sharing all about that trip. I went with a couple girlfriends to run the Glacier Half Marathon. We jam packed a lot into that five day trip, including stopping at Glacier Distillery, where they prepare delicious cocktails made with their spirits. They had a Smoked Caesar on their menu, and I knew immediately after that first sip that I needed to crack this recipe and make it at home.
And the just in….
I think I cracked it.
- Light & refreshing.
- Salty & smoky.
- Briny & spicy.
This cocktail has a little bit of everything, and I am IN TO IT.
Fairly certain you will be too! Cheers!
