I beg the question: what’s more comforting than a warm mug of cocoa on a chilly day?
I know, right? Not much.
Some of my most nostalgic memories from my childhood center around this classic creamy beverage. If I close my eyes, I can still feel the warmth of the steam on my cold, wind-chilled cheeks. Smell the intoxicating chocolatey scent that only gets better after taking a sip.
So again, revisiting my initial question… what gets better?
What about when that warm and cozy cup is actually packed with good-for-you ingredients?

This Superfood Peppermint Hot Cocoa is absolutely h e a v e n l y.
- Raw Cacao Powder: Packed with magnesium (bone health! immunity!), copper (energy production! collagen absorption!), and manganese (blood sugar regulation! nerve function! brain health!). Need I say more?
- Collagen: the most abundant protein in our bodies, collagen production in our bodies depletes over time. It’s important to supplement to promote hair, skin, joint, and bone health.
- Naturally sweetened: Dates offer a caramel-like sweetness, requiring less than you would use with sugar or honey.
- Essential Oils: I use my favorite culinary grade Peppermint Essential Oil – see notes below recipe for details.
- Almond Milk: My favorite low-calorie, dairy free alternative, almond milk offers a creamy texture and milk natural sweetness. Coconut, oat, or any other nut milk can easily be substituted here.
THAT’S IT.
Whir it up in your bender or food processor, pour in to favorite mug artfully style with eucalyptus and twinkling lights, and snap a photo.

I feel like I’m 6 again, covered in head to toe snow gear, making a snow fort outside, and experiencing sheer ELATION when I hear my mom calling to come inside for cocoa.
Though I’d be lying if I said that this recipe was close to the cocoa I had as a child, and didn’t rhyme with “Schwiss Schmiss”.
The verdict? This one tastes just as delicious…and makes me feel like a “big kid”.
Superfood Peppermint Hot Cocoa
Ingredients
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 Tbsp raw cacao powder, see notes
- 1 Tbsp collagen powder, see notes
- 1 date
- 1 drop peppermint oil, see notes
Instructions
- In a microwave safe dish, warm almond milk and water for 1 minute or until hot.
- Place warmed liquid, cacao powder, collagen powder, date, and peppermint oil in high power blender. Blend until smooth - but use caution. Some blender models may create extreme pressure when blending if not properly used. Read manufacturer's instructions!
- Pour warmed beverage in mug and enjoy.
