They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And I couldn’t agree more.
I’m a big breakfast gal, and I go through different phases of what I like to enjoy in the morning. But especially in the winter months, I like eating simething warm and cozy, like a bowl of oatmeal. Yet after 2 weeks of making the same bowl each day, I started to realize how much time I was taking to make it. So, I made a big batch of it to streamline my morning routine!
Ingredients for DIY Oatmeal Mix
- Rolled oats:I like using classic rolled oats here. Avoid quick cooking, steel cut, or instant, as this will impact the cooking time.
- Flaxseed meal: I love using this fiber rich ingredient that also is a great source of omega 3 fatty acids.
- Pitted dates: A natural sweetener that provides nice texture, dates are a staple in baked goods, smoothies, and of course oatmeal.
- Chia seeds: These little superfood seeds pack a nutrient punch. They’ve been proven to regulate blood sugar levels.
- Maca: While the benefits of maca range from stress management, increased energy, and even spikes in libido, the butterscotchy and nutty flavor is enough reason to want to sprinkle it on everything.
- Cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg: A classic collection of cozy spices that always finds its way into my oatmeal bowl. I love the anti-inflamatory and heart healthy benefits of each of these delicious spices.
How To Make The Most Delicious Bowl Of Oatmeal
- Combine 1/2 cup of oatmeal mix with 1/2 – 3/4 cup milk of your choice. Drizzle wit about 2 teaspoons of maple syrup.
- Microwave for 2 minutes or until liquid has absorbed into the oats (this may be more or less depending on your microwave!).
- Drizzle with a little more milk, and add your desired toppings.
Ways To Personalize This Oatmeal Mix
A bowl of oatmeal, and in turn – this oatmeal mix – is a blank canvas. You can add whatever dried fruit, nuts, seeds, an other mixing you desire! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Protein or collagen powder (I’ve been adding this Almond Protein Powder lately which is so good!)
- Cacao Powder
- Coconut Sugar (you can omit the maple syrup if you add this lower glycemic sweetener)
- Sliced Almonds
- Golden Raisins
- Goji Berries
- Freeze Dried Berries (you find these in those premade instant oatmeal packets! Strawberries are a fun addition!)
Tools and Ingredients I Used
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Lidded Glass Jar for Storage
- Rolled Oats
- Maca Powder
- Flaxseed Meal
- Chia Seeds
- Granola Butter (the most delicious topping)
