Make caramel apples fun again! Skewered slices are swirled in luscious caramel sauce and dipped into a variety of crunchy toppings. Everyone gets to build their own!
Is it just me or does the thought of biting into a whole caramel apple make your jaw hurt? I’ve always found caramel apples delicious, but too difficult to eat. So, I often overlook the classic fall sweet treat and opt for something a bit easier to enjoy.
Well, that all changes now! This caramel apple bar is an easy way to enjoy this treat without the intimidation.
DIY Caramel Apples
I love this concept so much, since it allows everyone to get their favorite bite. You can try all the toppings (or none!), or find your favorite combination. Apple slices are just so much easier to eat compared to a whole apple, and warm caramel sauce is tough to beat.
How To Make A Caramel Apple Bar
The idea of this caramel apple bar is far from complicated, and likely familiar to many. The skewers make it fun and mess free, and the variety of toppings keeps everyone happy. It’s too simple to call a recipe, so let’s just say this is the “concept”:
- Arrange your favorite toppings in small dishes. Get creative! Use classic ingredients for a caramel apple like crushed peanuts, chocolate chips, and seasonal sprinkles, but make it your own, too. Shredded coconut is outrageously good when combined with the caramel, and peanut butter M&Ms have become a new favorite of mine. Consider pretzels, dried fruit, or even crushed corn nuts.
- Warm your caramel to make sure it’s extra “glue-like”. Store bought caramel is simplest here, but of course feel free to make your own. Nothing beats homemade caramel sauce!
- Slice your apples. It’s hard to top a Honeycrisp apple this time of year, but use your favorite. All of the ingredients are pretty sweet, so you could opt for a more tart apple, like a Granny Smith or McIntosh.
- Use skewers to keep things mess-free. You really want to coat your apple slice with caramel, and then dip it into your chosen topping. Using basic wooden skewers is a simple way to avoid the stickiness that is inevitable with caramel.
