A canapé is a small appetizer featuring a cracker, slice of bread, or flat vegetable (such as a cucumber slice), topped with other savory ingredients. They are arranged decoratively, resulting in small bites that are as delicious as they are pretty. 

The term canapé translates to “couch” in French, comparing the ingredients that sit atop the bread or cracker to people who sit on a couch. How fun!

How To Make Radish Canapés with Herbed Butter

Making these crunchy and savory radish canapés couldn’t be easier. The ingredients include:

  • Pumpernickel Bread
  • Butter
  • Dill
  • Parsley
  • Salt
  • Radishes

The directions can hardly be called a recipe:

  1. Combine butter with fresh dill, parsley, and salt.
  2. Spread herb butter on slices of pumpernickel bread and refrigerate until chilled.
  3. Top with thinly sliced radishes, sprinkle with salt, and garnish with a sprig of dill.

That’s it! So simple, yet somehow so satisfying.

These Radish Canapés with Herbed Butter are so simply stunning! Light and fresh: perfect for spring!

Ingredients

  • 6 slices pumpernickel bread
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp fresh dill, chopped (plus more to garnish)
  • 1 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 6-8 radishes, very thinly sliced using a mandolin

Instructions

  • Combine butter, chopped dill and parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix completely to combine.
  • Spread butter on slices bread and put on a plate or platter. Refrigerate for an hour until butter hardens.
  • Once ready to assemble, slice the crusts from the bread and slice each piece of bread in half forming unfiorm rectangles or squares.
  • Thinly slice the radish and layer on top of each piece of bread. Garnish with fresh dill and sprinkle with salt.
