Fall’s Favorite Sip

When it comes to seasonal drinks that are prefect for Fall, it really is tough to beat sangria. An alcoholic punch with origins in Spain and Portugal, sangria traditionally is made with red wine, chopped fruit, and at times additional spirits. You’ve undoubtedly seen or enjoyed a version of this lip smacking libation, with many different versions gracing restaurant menus and social media feeds. This recipe is rather classic: it features a dry red wine, a rich brandy, fruit liqueur, cinnamon, and in-season fruit. It’s get a Fall twist with the addition of apple cider, too! It’s such a great cocktail to toast the cooling weather with!

How To Make Red Apple Fall Sangria

A cocktail as easy to make as combining 4 ingredients, tossing in some fruit and a few cinnamon sticks! Unfussy, fun, and delicious.

  1. Combine red wine, apple cider, brandy, and pear liqueur in a pitcher.
  2. Add cinnamon sticks and slices of orange, apple, and pear, along with some fresh cranberries.
  3. You can refrigerate this up to an hour before you’re ready to serve. If you need to refrigerate it longer, the fruit will be saturated (which is completely fine).
  4. Pour sangria into glasses that are filled with ice. Garnish with slices of apple, orange, and pear, cranberries, and a cinnamon stick.

Ingredients for Red Apple Fall Sangria

  • Cabernet Sauvignon: Some sangrias can get too sweet for me. I like starting with a drier red wine like a Cab, since I add a few more ingredients that add plenty pf sweetness.
  • Apple Cider: And here’s where the sweetness comes in! Apple cider adds such lovely and tart flavor.
  • Brandy: A traditional ingredient in many sangrias, brandy adds a rich layer of flavor. You can opt to omit it if you like, but I highly urge against it!
  • Pear Liqueur: Just a small amount of this delicious liqueur is needed, given its concentrated sweetness.
  • Cinnamon: This warming spice is such a nice addition. Cinnamon sticks lend just enough flavor without being overbearing or too spiced.
  • Seasonal Fruit: Apples and pears are abundant during the Fall of course, and given the apple cider and pear liqueur, provide a nice nod to what to expect from your first sip. Orange is a classic garnish for sangria, and a cinnamon stick rounds it all out.
