Turkey Sandwich With Dill Slaw
There is something to be said about a sandwich.
A selection of harmonious ingredients squished between two pieces of bread. Perhaps a slather of some spread to glue it all together.
It’s handheld. It’s convenient. It’s delicious.
And when it comes to sandwiches, I tend to take them very seriously. This Turkey Sandwich includes layers of briny, salty, and dilly flavor. It includes a crunchy dill slaw, crunchy pickle slices, and dill Havarti cheese. Wow, is this one good! Read on to learn all about this amazing sandwich.
How To Make A Turkey Sandwich With Dill Slaw
The making of a sandwich need not be complicated, but there are a few ground rules when it comes to sandwich making.
- Select the right bread. Not much i worse than going to eat a glorious sandwich and having it fall apart in your hands! I’m all for wraps (of the tortilla and lettuce varieties!), but fo this recipe I want something that I could hold with two hands confidently. A Club roll was an obvious choice!
- Choose your meat wisely. Deli meat has a reputation of including creepy crawly ingredients and preservatives. Whenever I get deli meat I always seek out options that have the fewest number of ingredients (and ones I can read, at that!), and always opt for organic whenever possible. Turkey and chicken are my go-to sandwich meats of choice.
- Choose your “glue”. More times than not, this will mean a sauce. Mayonnaise mustard, pesto, jam…really anything that will add a layer of flavor and keep ingredients in place. Knowing that my slaw is made with mayo, this mixture already is pretty binding. So, I skipped the sauce for this one!
- Add your veg. Referring back to step 3, I note that the slaw is serving as the glue and in this case, the veg, too! You can layer on tomato, lettuce, sprouts, or whatever other vegetables you like.
- Cheese it up. Although not always necessary, I love the addition of dill-flecked Havarti cheese in this sandwich. It offers a layer of creaminess that compliments the other components of this sandwich.
Ways To Make This Sammy Your Own
I talk a lot about customizing my recipes to fit your tastes on So Happy You Liked It, and this one is no exception.
As with any other sandwich, the sky is the limit on how to personalize this one! Here are a few ideas to make it your own:
- Swap out turkey for deli chicken, ham, roast beef, or even grilled chicken, steak, or a burger!
- Layer on slices of tomato, alfalfa sprouts, romaine lettuce, sliced peppers, or any other veggie your heart desires.
- Try making this into a lettuce wrap for a low carb option, or a wrap using a tortilla.
- Turn the sandwich inside out! Double up the dill slaw recipe and top with grilled chicken, chopped pickles, and sourdough croutons for a salad instead.
What To Serve With Turkey Sandwiches With Dill Slaw
The classic accompaniment to any deli sandwich, of course, is potato chips. You can also serve a light salad or some veggies and hummus, too!
If you’re serving these sandwiches as a part of picnic or big spread, consider adding a couple of other delicious dishes to round the menu out!
