Grilling Vegetables

As I’ve already outlined in my article, “How To Grill Vegetables”, vegetables can indeed…be grilled. A concept that may not be so new to many of you, but perhaps even the most seasoned cooks out there overlook this delicious cooking method.

Grilled vegetables has to be one of my favorite things to eat during the summer. Any time of year, really, but particularly when summer’s bounty is ever-flowing, with massive zucchini, thick mushrooms, and juicy tomatoes are widely available.

One vegetable in particular that I absolutely love grilling is broccolini! Read on to learn more about what broccolini is and how to grill it!

What Is Broccolini?

Being a word that you may need to slowly read due its resemblance to the well-known broccoli, brocc-o-lini is a cross between broccoli and Chinese broccoli. Its stems are thinner, longer, and more tender compared to traditional broccoli, while the florets closely resemble the brassica we’re all so familiar with.

How To Make Charred Broccolini

Since broccolini features miniature stems that are separated for cooking, I suggest using a grilling basket to avoid losing any precious broccolini between your grill grates!

In this recipe, I wanted the smokiness of the grill to not be overshadowed by other big flavors. I seasoned it simply with:

  1. Olive Oil
  2. Garlic
  3. Ginger
  4. Salt and Pepper

I add the seasonings to the broccolini in a large bowl and give it a good toss to coat each piece. Everything goes into the grilling basket and is tossed every so often until the broccolini is lightly charred in spots. It will turn a vibrant shade of green which will instantly make your mouth water (at least mine does!).

The broccolini is then finished with a light drizzle of rice wine vinegar and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Pure perfection!

Go Make This Charred Broccolini!

The flavor in this Charred Broccolini is so complex and layered: it doesn’t need much else for it to shine! I love serving it with grilled chicken or steak and a lightly dressed salad for a delicious supper worthy of summertime. Enjoy!
