Dill Pickle Dip
There are a few recipes that take me right back to my childhood. Chicken Ziti, Venison Burgundy, Bulgur Pilaf, and a version of this chip dip!
My best friend’s mom, Mary, is a fabulous cook, and so many of the things she would mak (and still makes to this day!) are some of my most favorite and nostalgic recipes.
I’ve added a twist to her recipe, in light of my Pickle Series that I’m doing on my Instagram page. I’m sharing all sorts of recipes this month featuring pickles, and this one is a KEEPER.
Read on to learn about this mouthwatering dip that I sincerely can’t stop eating once I start!
How To Make Dill Pickle Dip
The base of any delicious creamy dip is cream cheese. It’s tangy, smooth, and offers a scoopable thickness that every great dip has. Yet, a proper dip needs to be soft enough so your chip doesn’t break. This is where sour cream comes in.
Here is what you will need for this irresistible dip:
- Cream Cheese
- Sour Cream
- Dill Pickles
- Dill Pickle Brine
- Fresh Dill
- Garlic Powder
- Chives (to garnish)
The steps to make this tasty dip couldn’t be easier:
- Add all ingredients except chives to a large glass mixing bowl.
- Using a hand mixer, blend the mixture on high until completely combined. You want this as smooth as possible!
- Transfer to a serving dish and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours in advance. Garnish with fresh dill and chives. Serve with potato chips, pretzels, and veggies!
Ways To Make Dill Pickle Dip Your Own
This dip is completely customizable based on your flavor preferences. The original dip that Mary made included only the addition of chives and lemon juice. You could also consider the addition of the following ingredients to truly make it your own:
- Mayonnaise
- Lemon or lime juice
- Olives
- Pickled mushrooms
- Fresh green pepper
- Corn
- Sundried Tomatoes
- Any herb! Basil. mint, tarragon, parsley cilantro…take your pick!
- Pimento
What To Serve With Dill Pickle Dip
The traditional way to serve this dip is with classic potato chips. The thinner and crispier, the better!
For this dill pickle version of the classic dip from my childhood, I served it with Dill Pickle Potato Chips to REALLY lean into the dill pickle flavor. Pretzels were a close second as a favorite, and veggies are always a welcome fresh addition.
