Homemade Chai Spice Mix

Warm, spicy, and distinctive: the spices that make up Chai are those that individually are delicious, but when combined are positively powerful!

What’s In Chai Spice Mix?

The spices that make up this warming mixture include:

  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger
  • Cardamom
  • Nutmeg
  • Black Pepper
  • Cloves
  • Fennel

The combination of these warming spices is distinct and delicious. The addition of black pepper and fennel (not always standard in Chai) offers unexpected spice and earthiness. Don’t omit them – you won’t regret it!

How To Use Chai Spice Mix

This Homemade Chai Spice Mix is delicious in so many ways! Check out a few ideas to consider:

  1. Make a comforting and cozy Coconut Chai Latte
  2. Swap out the cinnamon in this Banana Bread , these Pumpkin Muffins, or these Apple Muffins
  3. Stir in to the filling for Cinnamon Rolls
  4. Sprinkle in pancake batter
  5. Try it in your favorite chocolate chip cookie (this is my favorite recipe! )
  6. Add 1/2 – 1 teaspoon to your coffee grounds for a spicy caffeinated kick

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp Cinnamon
  • 3 1/2 Tbsp Ground Ginger
  • 4 tsp Ground Cardamom
  • 1 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 3/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground fennel

Instructions

  • Combine all spices in a bowl. If starting with whole seeds, crush them using a pice grinder or mortar and pestle.
  • Transfer to a lidded jar to store. Use within 3 months for best flavor!
