What Is a Gimlet?

The gimlet is a classic cocktail that combines gin and lime juice. The origin of the cocktail seems to have traces to naval practices. A  handheld drill of the same name had a piercing effect on sailors’ ears, and thus: a cheeky reference for a cocktail name was born. Other resources claim that Sir Thomas Gimlette, a naval surgeon, created the recipe in an effort to curb scurvy.

The traditional recipe includes two parts gin, one part lime juice, and one part simple syrup. It’s a lovely balance of sweet and sour, and goes down incredibly smooth!

How To Make Hibiscus Infused Gin

The term “passion” in reference to tea is widely used in describing a combination of hibiscus leaves with a variety of other ingredients. “Passion” is inferred, given the magenta hue that the gin takes on when infused with hibiscus tea. The flavor profile is lightly floral, citrusy, and tart. It’s a beautiful combination with freshly squeezed citrus!

To make this gorgeous spirit, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Place gin in a half-pint jar.
  2. Add teabags to the gin, and swirl until the bags are entirely submerged.
  3. Allow the gin to steep at least two hours: the longer it steeps, the more intense the flavor will be!
