Spanish Gin & Tonic
When you think of the most cool and refreshing things you can sip on, what comes to mind first? Perhaps lemonade, iced tea, a crisp white wine? How about a Gin and Tonic?!
Arguably one of the most well-known and classic cocktails out there, a gin and tonic is a cool, slightly bitter, and effervescent beverage to consider any time of year. Read and learn more about this refreshing Spanish Gin and Tonic!
What Is A Spanish Gin and Tonic?
There are so many different varieties of gin out there, but my favorite has to be those from the Mediterranean region. There are floral, fruity, astringent, and bitter varieties of gin. Spanish gin tends to be fruity and herbaceous, making the garnishes for this cocktail not only beautiful, but indicative of the flavor and aroma you can expect.
How To Garnish
When garnishing these beautiful beverages, I reach for fresh fruit and herbs that compliment the flavors of the gin. My favorite garnishes for a Spanish Gin and Tonic include:
- Citrus like Grapefruit, lemon, lime, or orange
- Fresh herbs like rosemary, mint, or thyme
- Cardamom Pods
- Peppercorns
- Cucumber
- Edible Flowers (to make it pretty!)
Tips For Making A Delicious Spanish Gin and Tonic
First things first, we have to start out with a great quality gin. There are so many delicious options out there, so do a little research to find one suited for your budget and taste preference.
As previously mentioned, I typically reach for a Mediterranean gin as much as I can, but it’s fun to try new options and see how they compare to one another!
With so few ingredients in this drink (literally gin and tonic!), it’s important to ensure that the tonic you use is of high-quality as well. Once again, like gin, there are so many different tonic waters to choose from. Especially in the last few years, more specialty tonics have come to market, giving you plenty of options to choose from! One of my favorite tonic waters is from Fever Tree. The flavor is amazing, offering the perfect balance of sweet and bitter.
