This Rosemary Maple Bourbon Sour is a true crowd pleaser! Smoky bourbon, bright lemon juice, sweet maple syrup, and fragrant rosemary equate to one insanely delicious cocktail.
Tried & True
There are some recipes you come across that you continue to make again and again. This is not one of those recipes.
I have made these cocktails (in the last month alone) again, and again, and again, and just one more time “because-I-don’t-think-I-got-great-pictures-of-them-last-time”.
THIS COCKTAIL, YOU GUYS. Imagine this:
- Smoky bourbon
- Freshly squeezed tart lemon juice (none of that bottled stuff, please!)
- Sweet & sticky maple syrup
- Aromatic and herby rosemary
All dosed in perfect proportions yielding a perfectly tart, sweet, and well-rounded cocktail.
Making A Rosemary Maple Bourbon Sour
This cocktail hails from Eric Prum and Josh Williams’ book, “Shake: A New Perspective On Cocktails“. I’ve returned to recipes in this book time and time again, though this one tends to be on repeat. I love that this book breaks out cocktails by the seasons, a concept I already practice on this blog.
Traditionally, a Whiskey Sour cocktail includes whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup. The simple syrup lends sweetness, offering balance to the drink. In this modern version, maple syrup stands in for the sugar, and fragrant rosemary is added for an herbaceous bouquet. Tart, sweet, smoky, and herby. In other words, absolute cocktail perfection.

I saw this on TCL and knew I had to try it. I have a question though. I have a full bottle of locally crafted Wisconsin Wheat Whiskey, can I use it in place of the Smokey bourbon? If not, which Bourbon do you recommend?
Hey Shelly! Yes! So excited you’re trying this one. I would absolutely try the Wisconsin Wheat Whiskey here – I bet it will be delicious!
