Building A Char-SPOOKY-erie Platter For Halloween!

Make an eerie char-SPOOKY-erie platter for Halloween! This guide offers tips to make the most delicious and sinister Halloween charcuterie spread.

Happy Halloween!

My love for Halloween knows no end. I’m a lover of all things macabre, so the food I make and enjoy this time of year always has a sinister vibe to it.

Whether it’s carving pumpkins, watching a scary movie, or pre-trick-or-treating: you need something delicious and spooky to fill your belly and lift those spirits. Why not make a spooky  Halloween charcuterie platter, or as I like to call it: a char-SPOOKY-erie platter! Check out all the details for how to make this creepy board below!

How To Make A Halloween Charcuterie Platter

When setting out to make a charcuterie platter worthy of Halloween, the goal is to make it as creepy as you possibly can (and as strong as you and those you’re feeding stomachs are). Here are are a few “props” to make it as spooky as possible:

  • A beautiful platter. A black or silver platter offers a dramatic backdrop for all those creepy accoutrements. I like to peruse Good Will for previously loved items, and have had so much luck finding silver platters and dishware!
  • Spooky props. Fake spiders, rats, snakes, and other critters given an extra eerie presentation.
  • Creepy additions. The “eyeballs” on the platter are mini mozzarella balls (bocconcini) stuffed with a green olive and wrapped with prosciutto!
  • Accompanying sinister beverages. An ominous cocktail is the perfect  addition to this already frightening spread.

What To Include On A Halloween Charcuterie Platter

As with any charcuterie platter, the key is selecting the items that you like best! However, there a few ground rules for making an expertly put together spread:

  1. Cheese. To capitalize on the spookiness, I seek out the creepies cheeses I can find. What I mean by that are those cheeses that appear extra moldy and icky. Cypress Grove, a good Roquefort, and Kaas cheese are all excellent options to seek out.
  2. Meat. The “flesh” can be fold or rolled. Choose your favorites and tuck it next to the cheeses.
  3. Something sweet and sinister. I made “Bat Hearts” by dissolving 2 tablespoons of sugar in 1 cup of red wine and adding 1 cup of dried cherries to the liquid. These red wine marinated cherries as delicious with a slice of cheese on a cracker, or simply popped into your mouth on their own!
  4. Dark and disturbing additions. Anything black will do! On this platter I chose black olives, dried blueberries, and dried figs. Other delicious options include blackberries, grapes, black licorice, and chocolate covered almonds. Get creative and have fun!
