Banana bread is a tasty and nostalgic simple treat that everyone knows and loves! Arguably, most people have a go-to recipe that they call their own, and this is mine!
This is the banana bread that I grew up with, my Mom making it on a frequent basis. It’s tender and moist, and packed with banana goodness! Read on to learn more about what I consider The Very Best Banana Bread!
How To Make Banana Bread
Like muffins and other quick bread recipes, banana bread is fairly simple to make. A handful of ingredients are combined and mix together, poured into a prepared baking pan, and baked until tender.
The ingredients in this banana bread are:
- Banana
- Eggs
- Neutral Oil (like vegetable or canola)
- Sugar
- Maple Syrup
- Vanilla
- Flour
- Baking powder and soda
- Cinnamon and Nutmeg
- Salt
Ways To Make Banana Bread Your Own
You can make banana bread your own with the addition of some of your favorite add-in’s! Here are a few favorites of mine to consider:
- Coconut
- Chocolate Chips
- Pecans
- Walnuts
- Macadamia nuts
- Peanut butter or almond butter
- Flavor extracts like almond, rum, or chocolate
- Flax meal or wheat germ
- Protein powder
Depending on the ingredient, I recommend the following amounts for any add in to your banana bread:
- Solid ingredients, like chocolate chips, coconut, or nuts: 1/2 cup
- Creamy ingredients, like peanut or almond butter: 2 tablespoons-1/4 cup
- Extracts: 1 tsp total
- Powdered or mealed ingredients like protein powder, wheat germ, or flax meal: 1-2 tablespoons

The Very Best Banana Bread
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups very ripe mashed banana, from about 4 bananas
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1/2 cup neutral oil, like vegetable
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a loaf pan with butter or oil. Place a piece of parchment paper in the pan with the edges hanging over (cut the parchment to fit - this helps for easy lifting out of the pan once the bread is baked).
- In the bowl of a stand mixer or a mixing bowl, combine banana, eggs, oil, sugar maple syrup, and vanilla. Mix until all ingredients are incorporated.
- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt in a separate bowl, mixing to combine. Add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared baking dish and bake for 55-60 minutes, or until top of bread is golden bread and a toothpick or cake tester comes out clean. Serve warm!
