Après Boat Bites

You may have heard the term après as referring to the post-skiing fun that follows a day on the snowy slopes. Après is French for “after,” and après-ski refers to the time when ski gear is stowed and appetites are whetted. For many, après-ski isn’t just an activity—it’s a lifestyle. Why don’t we borrow this concept and apply it to summer with après-boat for some post-boating fun? One could argue that boating works up quite the appetite, just as downhill skiing does, and I, for one, believe that winter shouldn’t have all the fun!

How To Make Après Boat Bite Skewers

These skewers are the perfect après-boat bites! They can be made in advance, stored in the refrigerator, and ready to be devoured following a perfect day on the water. Crisp iceberg lettuce, juicy cherry tomatoes, spicy red onion, and smoky bacon are threaded on a skewer and drizzled with a cool and creamy blue cheese dressing with a hint of spice.

Fragrant melon, tender prosciutto, smooth mozzarella, and tangy marinated artichokes offer the perfect flavor combination of sweet, savory, and salty. Serve these skewers with your favorite refreshment and an assortment of other convenient nibbles such as olives, mixed nuts, and crackers.

Make The Après Life Your Own!

The après-boat concept is something my family has enjoyed for years at my parents’ cabin in Northern Minnesota. It’s that magical moment when the sun begins to hang heavy in the cerulean sky, the tunes are cranked on the deck, the ice-cold beverages are poured, and the Adirondacks are claimed. You can bet these skewers will be starring in our après-boat lineup this summer, and I hope they will be in yours, too.
