Minnesota Snack Platter

When one thinks about classic Minnesota eats, a few things undoubtedly come to mind: Juicy Lucy’s, Hotdish, and Walleye. But what about the snacks?!

What some have deemed, “Minnesota Sushi”, dill pickle roll-ups are a non-negotiable for family gatherings. Smoked fish of all sorts is a classic pre-dinner snack. Fresh veggies from the garden grace late-summer tables. Polish sausage nods to heritage that many hold (myself included!).

I’ve gathered my favorite Minnesota Snacks on this platter that’s the perfect après boat bite, but really…this collection of bites would be delicious any time of year. Read on to learn all about it!

Ways To Make This Snack Platter Your Own

This is a bit self-explanatory, but really you can make a snack platter with whatever you have on hand! There’s nothing that makes me happier than realizing I have everything I need for a scrumptious collection of snacks. Here are a few things to consider (but please…make the Dill Pickle Roll Ups I talk about next):

  • Olives
  • Mixed or candied nuts
  • Any fresh veggies: sliced cucumbers, carrots, peppers, radishes…anything that’s fresh from the garden in the summer ideally!
  • Cured meats like pepperoni, prosciutto, salami, soppressata, or slices of any sausage link
  • Toasted baguette
  • Fresh fruit like sliced apples or pears, grapes, and berries
  • Dried fruits like apricots, dates, or strawberries (they taste like fruit snacks!)
  • Any kind of cheese!

Dill Pickle Roll Ups: The Snack That Needs No Introduction for a Minnesotan

If you’re from Minnesota, you have no doubt consumed or personally made “Minnesotan Sushi”. I kind of detest this nickname, but alas, here I am using it.

So, what the heck is Minnesota Sushi you might be wondering? It’s simple: it’s a slice of deli ham that’s been spread with cream cheese, topped with a pickle, rolled up, and sliced. It’s by far one of my favorite dirty snacks I’ve ever eaten.
