What Are Deviled Eggs?

Deviled eggs are a classic appetizer made of hardboiled eggs that are shelled, sliced in half, and filled with a mousse-like mixture of the egg yolks, mayonnaise. and mustard. They’re a party favorite, and are overwhelmingly made for Easter, when hardboiled eggs are a plenty.

Tips To Make The Best Deviled Eggs

  1. Hard boil your eggs properly. You want the whites to be perfectly cooked, and the yolk to be a nice creamy yellow color. Check out my article, “How to Make Perfect Hardboiled Eggs” to learn how!

  2. Don’t overcomplicate the filling. You don’t need much to make this simple filled. The egg yolks are combined with a mixture of dijon mustard, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper.

  3. Whip the filling until smooth! Nothing is worse that a lumpy deviled egg (although admittedly, they’ll still taste great!). But when the filling is light, whipped, and fluffy, they become that soft and delicate mouthful that’s tough to beat! I like using a pastry bag fit with a star tip to pipe the filling in each egg half (which makes having a whipped mixture even more imperative!).

  4. Garnish with a few choice ingredients. A good sprinkle of paprika provides color and a gentle nod of heat. Fresh dill and snipped chives add contrasting color and bright flavor. In my opinion, you don’t need much more than this!
